The room was clean and smelled lovely, but the rest of my stay for work was appalling. Reception didn’t seem interested in helping, and the woman there appeared unsure what she was doing. I was booked for a 6:30 meal, arrived at 6:20 and was told someone would come over. At 6:45, after several staff had walked past, I went to the bar to place my order. The Big Stack Burger was raw, as if it had barely touched a pan. It took another 25 minutes to arrive. The lady took it away, and I switched to pizza. By nearly 7:25 I was still waiting, and it finally came at 8pm. Staff were chatting behind the bar or disappearing out back, so people waited ages even to be seen. Only two women, whose names I didn’t get, seemed to know how to do their jobs. My room heating didn’t work at all. The wall panel looked broken and none of the buttons worked. Breakfast wasn’t impressive either. The beans were cold, the eggs were so overcooked the yolks had a rubbery layer, and the sausages were only just cooked. The pastries and bread were probably the best part. The car park to the right of the building, under the bypass, is awful to get into. Expect to scuff your rims or need a six point turn. My room overlooked the bypass and was noisy at night as people left to go home and get places. I wouldn’t stay again unless there was nowhere else, and I certainly wouldn’t eat there again.

We chose this city centre Premier Inn because our daughter was having an operation, not for a pleasure trip. Parking cost £14 for two nights on top of the high city location price. Check-in was fine, but the room was disappointing and didn’t look clean. A light seemed to be failing or had the wrong lamp in it. The heating was broken, though it came on now and then when set to cold, until I managed to turn it off. They gave us a small oil heater. The tea and coffee tray wasn’t stocked, and the bathroom was dirty. After a hard day going back and forth, all we wanted on the last night was sleep, but a false fire alarm woke us rudely. I’ve stayed in Premier Inn hotels around the country and Europe, and I’ve never left feeling dirty before. We ate there the first night, but for what it cost, I could’ve bought a microwave meal from Tesco, because that’s what it tasted like. My verdict: it needs a full revamp, or a lower price to match the standards.

Grant at the desk was a great help after we returned from a day in Beverley and realised we’d booked just one night instead of two. Beverley is a lovely town, with a great minster and good pubs and bars. Grant found us another identical room so we could book in again. Can’t thank him enough. The hotel is great, the location is good, and Hull impressed us too, with plenty of great pubs, bars and restaurants in the centre.

Breakfast had plenty to choose from, and the old town was only a short walk away. I stayed one night with friends over New Year. The rooms could do with an update. One had no heating, and although staff were told, nothing was done. We also had no tea or coffee in our room, which was disappointing. We only noticed the next morning.

I stayed in room 1120 from May 26th to May 27th. The hotel entrance felt downright scary, and reception is on the 7th floor. The lift only works with a card, so where does it say you can get to the 7th floor without one? I’ve stayed at many Premier Inn hotels and everything was fine, but I absolutely don’t recommend this one. The air conditioning doesn’t work in any of the rooms, though nobody tells you that. I only found out when I asked to change rooms. The girl at reception said, "Call for complain!" I called, but was told, "We can only accept your complaint after you leave the hotel!" The room has a fan, but all it does is blow hot air around. The room itself is tired, and the hallways smell like someone died there. Tower St, Hull HU9 1TQ, UK.
