The name seems to be Carlton Hotel rather than Olive and Ginger, perhaps because it gives a different impression of the sort of guests they’re attracting. We travelled from Wales to Hull on a limited budget, relying on the details on Booking.com, and the woman we spoke with by phone was very accommodating. We didn’t know the area and were leaving our daughter, who was due to start nursing work on 5/07. There were 18 rooms above a pub across two floors, and it was hard to find our room. It was as far from the stairs as possible. The room didn’t seem clean to me. It smelled musty and a bit rotten, and there appeared to be blood stains on the headboard. The door was meant to have both a Yale lock and a code lock, but ours wasn’t locked at all and could simply be pushed open. That’s when we saw the code lock was just for show, with the actual locking mechanism missing. There were no fire extinguishers, fire safety measures, smoke alarms, or other health and safety provisions. Long-term residents were staying there, and the place gave us a strong feeling of being unsafe. I wouldn’t consider it safe for children, and despite the NHS link on the site, I’d question that too.
