Redwings Lodge Sawtry

The games room was open to all guests, with pool and sofas, and the bar stayed open until 11pm with very reasonable prices for the area. Breakfast was simple and nice, just cereal, toast and pastries. We also had a good-sized room with a big comfy bed. It was clean enough and looked well looked after, and the toiletries and coffee station were stocked. Everything in the room and bathroom worked, though the shower was a bit disappointing, with little pressure and not much heat. There weren't many sockets, none by either side of the bed or under the TV. We picked this as a stopping point on a drive down the country, and the location worked out really well. It's right by the road but far enough away that we couldn't hear traffic. There's a fuel station and an Indian restaurant in the same complex. The receptionist was lovely and suggested things to do and places to eat nearby. We took her advice and went to the ‘Crocodile Zoo’, which was great! There had been an incident involving an ambulance and police before we arrived, but it didn't disrupt our stay. The hotel handled it professionally and apologised for any inconvenience.

The staff were really friendly, and the bar has air con and very reasonable drink prices. I didn't have breakfast, so can't comment on that. The rooms have a strange smell, the keys are awkward to use, and the bathroom is like a cupboard. Visiting during a heatwave, the room was stifling before I even turned on the shower. There's no air con, and the top-floor windows barely open. It felt hotter than the surface of the sun. It's a dump, but a clean dump!

The room was clean and had everything I needed, and it was quiet outside. Reception staff were friendly, and I could check in early for a small fee. The room looked nothing like the one in the booking photos, though, and the WiFi was weak.

A budget stay at an exceptional price, with clean, tidy accommodation. Some parts could use a refurb, which the price reflects. Breakfast is included too, with cereal, toast, jam, tea and coffee.
