The Horse was a happy place for my wife and me to call our local while we stayed up the road for a couple of weeks. It’s dog-friendly inside and out, with a friendly vibe and board games. The food was good, and the Sunday Roast was lovely and very reasonably priced, only £4 more than the good but not great haddock and chips I’d paid for in Guildford the night before. It’s a super cozy pub, and the staff were friendly, especially Hannah and Maddie. We might even drive back just for the roast.

The breakfast was honestly the best we’ve had anywhere in the world, with generous portions, beautiful cooking and a great choice. The restaurant was spotless too. Our room was immaculate, nicely presented and welcoming. We stayed at the Horse Inn last weekend for a wedding nearby, and they let us check in early and explained how we could get back if we were late. Nothing was too much trouble. We also tried the gin bar in the amazing interior, and it’s definitely worth a go. The staff were unusually welcoming and friendly, and the food, drink and accommodation were all top class. I’d highly recommend it and would stay again if we’re in the area.

We had the roast pork and beef for our 2pm lunch, both delicious and served in lovely big portions. The roast potatoes could’ve been crispier, but the gravy in its own jug was some of the best I’ve had. The pub has a nicely decorated country feel and two open fires. It was quite cold when we arrived, though it warmed up later. I’d definitely return.

The head chef was eating there too and was a friendly guy, happy to accommodate our fussy requests. The Sunday roast was one of the best I’ve ever had, a huge plate, but I couldn’t leave any of it. 10/10, can’t wait to go back.

The refurbished interior has kept very little of its original character. The service and the people there were friendly early this Tuesday evening, though. The IPA was excellent, but also the most expensive one I’ve bought so far.
