We had everything we needed for our stay as a couple, maybe with a furry companion too. The cottage is wonderfully dog friendly, with ample free parking and beautiful grounds and gardens. Set among trees and birdsong, we heard an owl twit twooing each evening. Big windows look out to Hillsborough nature reserve and, beyond it, the sea. The Glasshouse cottage is a beautiful, thoughtfully done conversion of the old greenhouse that served the property. It’s finished wonderfully, very clean, with a comfy bed and sofa. Underfloor heating and a log burner kept it toasty during our early spring stay. The bathroom is modern with a great shower, and the kitchen is well equipped for self catering, though the delicious food at The Thatched Inn is literally next door. Abi couldn’t have done more for us while we stayed at Laston cottages during extremely devastating circumstances. She was so kind and compassionate, a true gem.

We stayed three nights and didn’t want to leave. Laston House is beautiful, and Abi and Greg are superb hosts: warm, professional and attentive to guests’ needs. The gardens are stunning, and the brochures about places to visit were a thoughtful touch since we hadn’t been to this part of the world before. The house, or the cottages and house hired together as a self-catering whole, must be a real treat. I highly recommend Laston House for a visit to this lovely part of Devon, with a partner, family or kids. We arrived very late after bad weather on the way to a wedding, but got into the house and our room as arranged in advance. Thanks, Abi, for being so understanding. Our huge, gorgeous room felt comfortable and warm, with tasteful decor, elegant furniture and lovely period details that made good use of the character and dimensions of the house. The bed was HUGE and incredibly comfortable. Original sash windows let in lovely light, and the heavy curtains blocked it all when we wanted darkness. Beautiful bedding made it hard to get out of bed. The modern bathroom had lovely towels, an excellent shower, water at a perfect temperature and lovely locally made soap. At breakfast we got a warm welcome and enjoyed excellent vegetarian options, with something for everyone. The house offers a wealth of amenities.

What great accommodation: spacious, clean and very well equipped. It was lovely to be welcomed with tea, coffee, milk and sugar, plus scones with jam and clotted cream. Those little touches make all the difference. The peaceful location is still ideal for getting into town, and parking and WiFi were both good. We’d love to stay again.

The building is impressive, set along a private drive, with parking on the property. It’s about a 15-minute walk downhill to the harbour, but the route wouldn’t suit anyone with mobility problems. Our room, number 3, was a good size, clean and comfortable, with a lovely view from the window. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very tasty. Wi-Fi is available, though we couldn’t get it upstairs. We had a comfortable stay.

The harbour is only a 10-minute walk away, and we had a lovely two-night stay in this fantastic house. The service was friendly and relaxed, breakfast was superb, and it was great value. A real gem, highly recommend.
