Tivoli Place Guesthouse

This was our second visit, and the owners are such a lovely couple. The house is easy to get to from town, Ilkley Moor and, if needed, the station. As two 79-year-olds who travel around a lot, we still reckon it has the best room and breakfast we’ve ever had.

I always make time for the three-course Japanese evening meal when I stay here. I’ve had it on both visits, though I keep meaning to try the Japanese breakfast. For now, I’m happy with a kipper! One Tivoli is my go-to place in Ilkley. I first stayed in 2023 while walking The Dales Way from west to east, and came back this time for a short break while travelling from Kent to Cumbria. I really like the town, and this B&B makes being here even better. The rooms are lovely, and I enjoy sitting in the shared lounge, listening to music and reading. The moors are there for a walk too. I’ll be back again.

Rika and Peter put so much care into the details, from the food presentation to the immaculate, comfortable en suite rooms. We’re really glad we came and would return without hesitation. We chose this beautiful B&B mainly for the Japanese food, and it absolutely lived up to what we’d hoped. I’ve never had Japanese food this delicious or authentic outside Japan. We tried both the Japanese dinner and breakfast, as well as the English breakfast. So much is made in house, including tofu, miso, pickles, Japanese milk bread, croissants and pastries. I especially loved having unagidon, which you don’t come across often in this country, and the homemade miso soup was amazing. Gochiso sama deshita!!

The attention to all the small, helpful details was much appreciated, and it was excellent value. Everything was spotless, very well equipped and really comfortable, with easy parking and great hosts. There were excellent breakfast choices too. We’ll stay again. Next time we’ll try the Japanese breakfast and the dinner by request. If you don’t feel cared for and relaxed here, I reckon the problem is yours.
