It was nice having O'Gradys just around the corner, a two-minute walk, and Fantasy Island was about 15 minutes on foot. It’s good for older families. We’d all come back to coastfields. The site was very clean and tidy, and the manager was welcoming and informative when we arrived at 1800 on the 23rd. The caravan was clean and comfortable. When the gas ran out that evening, I reported it to the manager and someone swapped it over within five minutes. The show bar and lounge were clean for the end of the season, and so were the toilets. Bar staff were professional and worked tirelessly. The shows weren’t for us with older kids, but my wife loved the bingo, and the prize money was decent for a small place at the end of the season.

The beach is less than 100m from the site entrance, with lovely sand. The usual beach businesses were closed, as you’d expect in November. It’s not especially picturesque, but pleasant enough. The site felt a little crowded, with caravans quite close together. We parked between them, though the site discourages it because cars damage the grass, especially when it’s wet. There were other car parks reasonably close to our caravan. The large bins were an eyesore and should be screened off. At night you can hear entertainment from nearby sites, but it wasn’t loud and stopped around 12, so it didn’t affect our sleep. That’s to be expected at a holiday village. The place is about 3/4 miles from central Skegness. The main centre is at the entrance, with only a few parking spaces nearby, so it could get crowded if lots of people arrived together, though it was fine when we arrived. There’s a wide choice of machines in the amusement arcade. The “Aqua” bar doubles as a pool viewing area and serves coffee, breakfast, meals and drinks. It’s a nice, quiet, comfortable spot, especially when shows or bingo are on. The pool ranges from 0.8 to 1.1 m deep, with two smaller circular bubble pools and a little slide that has its own splash exit rather than ending in the main pool. A lifeguard was on duty and vigilant, but parents remain responsible for their children. Rules are posted outside. The water was a good temperature and easy to stay in for an hour. You had to book sessions to keep numbers down, but there was no charge or limit on how many times you could go. It was quiet when we visited, so summer may be different. The show bar was large, with a raised stage so kids couldn’t climb onto it. The bar was long, staff friendly and efficient, and there was hardly any waiting. They had a good range of beer and lager, from neck oil to moritti. Apple juice and a pint cost £7.20, which seemed reasonable. Food was available, including an offer of two 12-inch pizzas for £20. The meat feast was excellent, too much for me to finish, and the garlic bread pizza was excellent as well. The children’s entertainers led party dances for an hour and were excellent. We saw three acts, all good and definitely worth watching, especially the Taylor Swift tribute. The volume wasn’t overly loud, even near the stage, so you could still talk. Tables were cleared quickly and efficiently. By the centre there was a Chinese takeaway, a small chip shop and a spar shop near the usual caravan sales. Staff overall were excellent, friendly and helpful, with excellent service.

That pool is why we came back. It’s warm, not the biggest, but when we visit in the October break it’s not busy at all. The show bar is medium-sized and a bit dated, with a mirrored effect around the sides. There’s plenty of lively entertainment and the kids loved it, from the usual bingo, kids’ shows and quizzes to later entertainment. I won the joint bingo and was shouting! Drinks were fairly priced, the cheapest of all the parks we’ve visited over the years. There’s a good-sized amusement arcade too. Our silver 8 birth caravan wasn’t perfect, but I loved its size and comfort for the price. The double room seemed bigger than in other caravans we’ve had, with plenty of room around the bed. The spring beds were just okay, and we had to put on our own bedding. That wasn’t a problem, but I think it should be done before arrival. The heating was my one gripe, since you couldn’t set a temperature, it was either on or off. There’s plenty to do around here: the beach is across the road and would be lovely in summer, and Fantasy Island makes a great day out. We really enjoyed our time at coastfields and would definitely consider coming back for a short break.

The entertainment team, Howard, chloe and abbie, made so much of our holiday. They looked after me and my friend, we got to know each other by name, and it felt like they became family to us. We laughed more than we ever have, and they were fantastic. We visited in September for two weeks, checked into an excellent caravan at 2pm, and had one with decking. We went to the entertainment every evening. Would recommend.

The site is big, but the caravan was in a bad state, with damage everywhere. We’d ordered a platinum caravan, and when we first walked in it wasn’t what we expected. There was no TV in the bedroom, the freezer compartments were broken, the sheets were stained, and the countertop was damaged with its edging held down by cello tape. There weren’t even any door mats. Honestly, disappointed.
