St. Ronan's Hotel by OYO Rooms

A simple, clean hotel with a good breakfast and service delivered with a genuine smile. I felt right at home. The little bar is a nice spot for a beer and a friendly conversation with locals.

There’s a small car park behind the building, which was handy on such a busy road through town. Our rooms were large, clean and had tea and coffee making facilities, with plenty of space for us and the dogs. We could go straight out to the garden through a downstairs door instead of passing through the bar, and the gate could be shut at night when the dog needed to go out. The garden was really useful. It’s an old building with lots of character, and the bar downstairs felt welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful, and left us breakfast since we had to leave before it was served. We’ll stay again if we’re back in the area.

The beer was good, too. Inside, the place initially looks a little old and tired, and the handrail going upstairs could use a coat of paint. But the room was a real surprise, fitted out to a very high standard, with a comfortable bed and a decent-sized bathroom. We got a friendly welcome as well.

There isn’t currently a restaurant here, but breakfast is included in the room price and cooked to order, and ours was excellent. For food and drink later, the owners' extended family runs the pub two doors away, with great deals. The rooms have been renovated to feel comfortable and lovely. If getting through the friendly bar, with local people and dogs, is difficult for you, there’s a separate street entrance. We enjoyed the spacious beer garden and were sorry to leave. The family running the place went above and beyond to look after us. We hope to return soon.
