The room on the third floor had bed bugs, and the area felt dirty and unsafe. There’s no lift or luggage delivery, so you have to carry your own bags upstairs. At least there’s a fabulous bar across the street.

The room was alright, but the cabinets were very dusty, and the TV remote was dirty and didn’t work. The light was out, so I had to ask for a lamp. The employee I spoke to was friendly, but on my way to the room several people told me another guest had attacked them and that police had been called. They said the guest had come off drugs, but I don’t know if that was true. The rooms were jumbled up and difficult to find, and I slept terribly because of constant noise. I was also harassed by a woman who seemed mentally ill when I went to get the internet password. She stared at me for several minutes.

My wife and I had barely checked in before we turned around and checked out. There’s no elevator, so we started up the stairs from the bottom landing and left. This was our anniversary trip. I don’t know how anyone can give this place a good rating when it smelled of smoke and was dirty and mouldy. The ads for the hotel are misleading, so look carefully before booking.

I needed somewhere for a quick overnight stay, and the city-centre location suited us. I’d been hesitant because of the low ratings and negative reviews, but I’m glad I went ahead. The room was warm, cosy, clean and nicely organised, with everything provided as promised. I’d read comments about bed bugs and was worried, but we had no such problem. The heating and hot water worked perfectly, and the stay was comfortable. We asked for a very late check-in, and the owner arranged it smoothly. He talked us through finding the room over the phone, so we had no trouble. Even in the city centre, we found parking nearby without much difficulty. For the price, location and comfort, it felt like good value. I’m glad I chose it and would stay again for a convenient stopover.
