The peaceful grounds and beautiful stone house, with its long history, made this feel like a real escape from noise and light pollution. I loved reading the history in the room, meeting their lovely friendly dog, and seeing the animals they own. Chris and Karolyn were so warm and cheerful, treating us like old friends and doing everything they could to make our stay special. Our very clean, spacious family suite had a superb four poster bed, a single bed, flattering furniture, and a fantastic shower and roll top bath in the en-suite. The bed was super comfortable, the bedding lovely, and the room had absolutely everything we could need and more. Breakfast was out of this world, cooked to perfection. I truly hope to return.

I don’t mean to be unkind, but the place really creeped me out and wasn’t what I expected. It was freezing, and everything apart from the bathroom felt very outdated. We were told they couldn’t sell spirits without a licence, though there were plenty behind the bar, and we could leave a tip in the wooden box. Then they left us there alone while taking their grandchildren home. We had no idea whether anyone else was there or what to do in an emergency. The next morning, before heading out for the day, I asked my husband to call our next place and see if we could check in a day early. Thankfully they said yes. My husband went back inside to collect our things, but missed a few items in the bathroom. The owners never called or emailed to ask why we hadn’t returned that night. It was a very strange way to run a business.

The garden and history were lovely, and I really enjoyed the room, the owners’ roaring log fire and the honesty bar. Breakfast was WOW, whatever’s on offer. This is an absolute hidden gem, and I’d definitely stay again. We were in the area for an appointment at Aberdeen hospital.

Our group of five agreed this was our favourite stay during our two weeks in the UK. The hosts were wonderful, and the accommodation was comfortable.

Staying here felt like being at home in a quiet country setting, and Chris and Karolyn were perfect hosts. The food was amazing, and those farm fresh eggs were a lovely surprise. I also enjoyed hearing about the house’s history. Its location made nearby attractions easy to get to. Sleeping in a four-poster bed was a dream come true, and all the antiques made it feel like stepping into another era. I’d happily return anytime.
