Thainstone House

I was here for work and likely had one of the most affordable rooms. My small double was well appointed, though it may be due for a refresh. I had no complaint, but I wouldn't call my room four-star. The rest of the hotel is lovely. The building is stunning, the dining room has great views, and the staff are very friendly and polite. Meals came with old-school service, and the food was to a very high standard. I'd gladly go there for a meal.

The food has kept us coming back to Thainstone House for years, but this visit felt like the place had slipped. There was mould all over the bathroom, and the dining room was freezing. The bar had no fire on, and we had to hunt around for staff when we wanted a drink.

After we were evacuated from our room in the middle of the night because of a gas leak, they sent us to a horrible budget hotel. We came back in the morning for breakfast as instructed, only to be told we should have eaten at the place we’d been evacuated to. When we asked for a refund, even just for breakfast, they said that hotel was exactly equivalent to theirs and told us to “consider ourselves lucky to be alive.” If that’s how they rate their own hotel, I’ll rate it the same way.

Elaine and the team made our December 2025 wedding at Thainstone house hotel feel easy from start to finish. They even helped put up the DIY decorations we brought, which we really appreciated. The setting is lovely too, close to the A96 but secluded enough to feel tucked away. A great traditional wedding venue. Thanks, Elaine and team 😊
