Muthu Belstead Brook Hotel

We had a really nice anniversary stay, just one night. Before check-in, we had a couples massage, and it was one of the most relaxing either of us has ever had. They treated us in the same room, both therapists were polite and professional, and reception looked after our luggage while we were there. Once checked in, we used the pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The steam room wasn't working, but the changing area was clean and towels were provided. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a big shower that had a good temperature. Breakfast was good too, with full English and continental choices, and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted.

Breakfast was spot on, with plenty of choice, good quality ingredients, and lots of polite staff around. When we checked out, they asked about our stay. We mentioned the room, and they explained politely that the rooms are being renovated, though it takes time and money, which we understand. We were there for one night for a wedding. The room had most of what we needed, but it was musty and not very clean, the radiators didn't work, and the mattress was on its way out. We got back late to a really cold room, but staff quickly offered an extra duvet and a fan heater. Helpful, polite staff and a great breakfast made it okay for one night.

The restaurant was the highlight, the food was amazing and we really enjoyed it. The bar menu was good value too. We booked a one-night stay as a surprise for our mum and were impressed by how kind and helpful everyone was. Our junior suite was huge, very clean, and had a little French door opening onto the gardens. The spa was relaxing, with excellent facilities and a great temperature. The hotel does look a bit dated, but I think that gives it character. We had the best time and will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

We really enjoyed the food. Our three-course evening meal was tasty, and the waitresses were lovely, though they weren't sure which soup or crumble was on. It would help to have that information on a board they could check easily. The room itself was pretty and comfortable, but the advertised WiFi didn't reach our room properly. TV reception was poor on most channels, and the older TVs meant we couldn't stream anything either. The bottled water tasted like tap water rather than filtered as the label said, and the lid was loose.
