Kidron House Hotel

The room was lovely and clean, and the bed was super comfortable. We got a friendly welcome, and the place was easy to find, though parking was a bit tight. I wished the shower water had been warmer. There's a nice, spacious dining area, but we ate out with friends, so I can't comment on the food.

The bedroom was clean and tidy, and I slept well until people leaving for work became audible at 6:30am. A few toiletries beyond soap would have been a nice touch. I wouldn't stay again because I prefer somewhere with more facilities, though this seems like a good hotel for couples or workmen.

We booked at the last minute when our ferry to Arran was cancelled. The room was spacious and clean, and we were reasonably happy with it, though it was basic and definitely not 4-star. There was nobody available to check us in, and the phone number we were given went unanswered. We hadn't realised the B&B didn't serve food, so we had to drive into town to find something for the kids. Each time we turned on the bathroom light, a strong, unpleasant smell of smoke came through the extractor fan, and the walls are so thin we could hear other guests. We also thought breakfast was included, so the extra charge came as a surprise. The place was empty when we went down, and nobody appeared even when my husband called out. A staff member arrived after we helped ourselves to the continental breakfast and switched on the toaster. We ordered cooked breakfasts, but mine looked awful and was inedible; I didn't touch it. My husband said his was horrible too. They were soaked in oil and seemed to use very cheap, fatty meat. The kids didn't eat theirs either. The staff member was unfriendly and unwelcoming. We wouldn't stay again.

I was only meant to stay one night, but I loved it enough to book a second before I left. My luxury Suite had a huge jacuzzi bath and a sauna just for me. I somehow managed to tear myself away from both without turning into a prune or a giant ham, then had fantastic restaurant food and a great chat with the brilliantly friendly staff. The bed was almost too comfortable to get out of. Those were the most luxurious two nights I've had in ages.
