Skerrols House

The BnB is beautifully decorated, but Thomas is what makes Skerrols so special. He's friendly, funny and attentive without making it feel like too much. His wife Carolina makes the best cooked breakfasts, and there's also plenty of fruit, cereal and pastries. My husband and I had a lovely few days here. The location is perfect for exploring the island, and it's so peaceful with fields and cows all around. We'd love to return to Islay one day, and Skerrols will be top of our list. You'll need a car to get around, but this is a lovely place, with a friendly manager, gorgeous views and a beautifully clean home. There are several outdoor seating spots to relax in, plus a lovely back yard. Breakfast includes croissants, sliced meats, granola, yogurt and fruit, as well as a full menu of dishes cooked for you. There's a smoking area in the barn. The roof had been blown off just before we arrived, and they were rebuilding it while we were there, though we were out exploring the island as they worked.

This was our first visit to Islay, and we had a fantastic three-night stay at Skerrols House. The house sits among charming pastureland with beautiful views, and it's perfectly placed for getting around to the island's popular sites. The rooms and amenities were just right, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the team was super attentive. Breakfast was wonderful. Highly recommend!

The early ferry meant we had to miss breakfast, but Thomas and his team packed sandwiches, juice, fruit, and water for us to take along. That was such a thoughtful help. Our twin room had comfortable beds, a modern, roomy bathroom, and a cozy spot to sit with a TV. We also loved the house itself, especially the warm living room, reading room, and lovely outdoor area. When we arrived, Thomas gave us a friendly welcome, showed us around, and answered our questions. In the evening there were self-serve drinks, ice, and whisky glasses in the living room for anyone wanting to enjoy bottles bought at Islay distilleries. We had a great stay, and I’d come back to Skerrols House next time I’m on Islay. Highly recommend it.
