The cabin was spotless, well cared for and had all the amenities we needed. David and Kathleen were warm, attentive hosts, easy to approach and very gracious. We really appreciated how welcoming they were. Uig View is in a fantastic spot, and we’d happily recommend staying here.

The view and peaceful setting were a real highlight, and being close to the main road made it easy to get around. The host came by soon after we arrived and explained how to use the washing machine and tumble drier in a separate building. Inside, the small cabin felt more spacious thanks to its layout, with a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom with a shower and toilet. It was spotlessly clean, with biscuits, cereal, preserves, tea and coffee waiting on the table. The combi oven and hob worked well too. After reading earlier reviews, I wondered if it could live up to them. It did, and I’d highly recommend it for a pleasant stay on this beautiful island.

I’m glad we came before the place closed for winter. The hosts were lovely, and the pod was exceptional, with everything we needed. It’s also set in a beautiful location. I’d definitely recommend a stay here.

David had thought of all the little things, and we felt looked after even though we only stayed one night. Our ferry got us in very late, but he messaged ahead and turned on the lights so we could find the cabin in the pitch dark, with nothing else around. He still came out to greet us and check we had everything we needed. The place was clean, warm and more spacious than we expected. There was a small gift and a breakfast basket stocked with food, plus local shower gels, plenty of towels and a good selection of utensils for the little kitchenette. Washing and drying facilities were available too. It’s a great base for exploring Lewis, and we’d be glad to return if we’re back.

The service was five stars, and the rooms four. David welcomed us, then left us to ourselves, which suited us. The huts had all the basics: cooking facilities, a sofa, a lovely bathroom with toiletries, crisp clean linen and a nice little porch. I’d booked it for after my wedding and meant to stay, but we left two days early because of a few things about the trip and the area, not problems with the cottages. I hope that comes across in my rating. It was blowing hard most of the time, so we needed to keep the door shut. The bed sits under a lowered alcove, which seems like the only place it could go, but with the doors closed it felt a bit claustrophobic and short on air. I mean that as constructive feedback. More comfortable seats outside would have helped too, though otherwise everything was perfect. The location caught us off guard a little. Callanish stones are five minutes away and Harris beaches about 45 minutes, but we found Lewis felt restricted despite being so empty, with hardly anyone or any trees around. There seemed to be nowhere to go between here and Harris, and sheep fencing shut off so much land. It reminded me a bit of Donegal in Ireland, though Donegal has a pub in every small town. Maybe I missed one here. The spot must be lovely on a sunny day, but we had constant grey skies and horizontal rain, and not much else to see or do, so we packed up early. I’d still recommend it as a good place to stop, as long as you’re ready to relax.
