Taigh Scalpaigh

The view from our bedroom window was stunning at sunrise, with the mountains beyond Portree and the Man of Storr right there. Since the room faces north, it seems like a perfect place to watch for the Northern Lights too. Mina and John were excellent hosts, serving lovely breakfasts and giving us great tips on hikes and places to eat. We’ll be back, and our friends and family will be coming too!

We wished we could have stayed longer. The views from the breakfast area, over town and the Old Man of Storr, were stunning, and Mina made fresh fruit part of the amazing breakfasts every day. Portree is just seven minutes away. My parents had the upstairs room with a view, while I was downstairs without one, as Mina had explained when I booked. My room was cozy and comfortable, and felt like home. I was also lucky to get a session at Mina’s head spa sanctuary. It was incredibly relaxing, and after travelling from the other side of the world, I finally slept so well.

We spent four nights here and had a great time. The accommodation was excellent, the breakfasts delicious, and it was easy to get out and explore all the Isle has to offer. Mina was a wonderful host, suggested places to go, and let us use a washing machine.

Ollie the otter might appear if you’re patient and spend a while in the little hide down by the loch. The B&B is just outside Portree, about seven minutes by car from the centre. Mina was very helpful, and breakfast was delicious with a good view across the Loch.
