Bracken Hide Hotel

The views are extraordinary, the hides are comfortable, and the glamping idea is creative. Still, our three-night stay fell short of what we expected. Housekeeping didn't come, so I had to walk down the hill to get towels and toilet paper. The restaurant and breakfast room need better ventilation. At dinner the wait staff made us feel interrupted, then at breakfast we felt ignored. I'd like to see the place do well, but I don't think the current prices are justified. A simpler business model might let staff do more to exceed guests' expectations in such a lovely setting.

The restaurant deserves a mention on its own: the food was excellent, the atmosphere welcoming, and it was a convenient way to start our stay or eat after a day exploring. Paula, the manager, was especially helpful and knowledgeable, with great recommendations. Our cabin, or “hide,” was just the right size for two, comfortable, well laid out, and had a great view over Loch Portree. Most of the cabins seemed likely to have similar views. The property also has a sauna and plunge pool, which was a nice surprise and well worth trying on a Scottish trip. Bring a swimsuit, or take your chances. Staff were courteous and helpful from arrival on. We chose one of the “most accessible” cabins, which worked out very well in the cold weather and driving rain. Think carefully about cabins with a steeper climb, as that might be fine in good weather but less appealing when Skye gets rough. We had a great stay at The Bracken Hide in Portree. It's a comfortable, beautiful base for exploring Skye, and we'd stay again. Highly recommend it.

The food was a real highlight. Every dish was beautifully presented, cooked just right, and full of fresh local flavours. You could tell the kitchen took pride in its work. The staff were attentive and friendly, making the evening feel special without hovering. With the stunning views from the dining area and the warm welcome amid the modern design, it made for a lovely meal at The Bracken Hide. We'll definitely be back.

The cabins can get warm, and the bathroom's heated floors are lovely. You'll need to walk from your cabin to the restaurant and lounge, but that's part of the charm and the scenery is amazing. We loved the sauna and cold plunge, and the food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful too. A great spot for people who love nature but also want some luxury.
