The Portree Hotel

My stay at the hotel was fine, with nothing wrong with it. The restaurant staff, though, could do better with hospitality. I'd finished dinner but hadn't asked for the bill or finished my drink when a waitress brought the bill over. I got the message and won't spend money there again.

We only managed one night because they had no availability for longer, and wished we could have stayed more. Our three-person room had room for all of us and our luggage, with a huge bathroom containing both a bath and a shower. Breakfast came with the stay and was tasty and filling. The building still feels charmingly old while having some modern updates. This was our favorite place of our ten-day UK trip, and I'd highly recommend it if you get the chance.

We stopped in Portree while taking buses across Skye to connect our rail trip from Mallaig to Kyle of Lochalsh. The bus station is right outside the hotel. The staff were friendly and let us leave our cases while we explored town. We booked lunch, had a nice light soup and sandwich, and the beer was well kept. Good value, with friendly, professional service. We carried on to Kyle that afternoon, so I can't comment on the rooms.

The rooms were cosy, warm, and well looked after, and we came away with fond memories. Breakfast has plenty of choice, but you need to book a time slot because staffing is limited and it gets busy. We reserved a dinner table when we checked in, then forgot to do it the next day and had a real struggle getting dinner. Make sure you reserve.
