The starters and service were lovely, which made the steak disappointing. I ordered a medium fillet, but it came out overcooked and fatty, and I couldn't cut through it. When I mentioned it, the woman made me feel bad and said that was because it was medium. I usually enjoy steak at restaurants, but this was probably the worst I've had. Such a shame on what had been a lovely date night. The chef needs to get better quality meat and cook it properly.

The gluten-free fish and chips I had were delicious, and the staff took the time to explain which dishes could be made gluten free. We were here for a family dinner on holiday and had a great meal, with really friendly service and tasty food. We'd definitely come back if we're in the area.

The only good part was the pleasant bar staff. We were the only people eating, and the food was poor: undercooked frozen chips, just a small portion of scampi with peas, mushy warmed-up vegetables, and belly pork that wasn't cooked enough and had to be cut instead of falling apart. There was no hot water in the ladies' room, and parts of the decor looked shabby and thrown together. Very disappointing.

The portions were incredibly generous and everything was cooked delicately. With great beer and such friendly staff, we went in as customers and left feeling like friends. A fabulous Sunday lunch, easily on a par with top Michelin star restaurants.

It's a cosy pub a short walk from Modbury High Street, and the Sunday lunch was tasty and reasonably priced. The gravy was poured all over the food, though, so the meal was swimming in it. I'd much rather have a little jug and choose how much to use. I'll still return, but next time I'll ask for it on the side. Families seem to make this a popular spot, so booking ahead is a good idea.
