Old Silent Inn

I had sausage, mash and peas, with excellent gravy. There were two real ales, too. A lovely old building full of character in a rural setting. Highly recommended.

The staff were lovely, but that's the only positive thing I can say. On our December lunch visit the pub was extremely cold, and as soon as we sat down we were told several menu items weren't available. The food came lukewarm and was dire, like poor quality dustbin food. It certainly didn't seem freshly prepared or cooked with care. I've never had such a bad meal. We won't be coming back, which is a shame given the lovely old building.

The food was fine and the staff pleasant, but they didn't seem sure what food or wine was available. Of the four real ales, only Greene King IPA was on. It was a freezing, wet day in late November, and the pub was uncomfortably cold because there was nothing to get the fire started. The lady kept trying, but ripped-up cardboard was never going to work.

The breakfast was OK, but we wouldn't recommend The Old Silent Inn. We came to Haworth for a trip, expecting a warm, cozy, clean, traditional B&B based on the website photos. When we arrived around 2:30 pm, the place and car park looked unkempt and empty, though you can't judge by appearances. The young woman who checked us in was polite and took us straight to our room. It was very dirty, with marks on the walls, headboard, and elsewhere. My wife asked to move rooms, which was no problem. The next room was better but still tired looking. The bedding and towels were thin and poor quality. The heating went off and the room got cold. I spoke to the manager, who said it costs £60,000 a year to heat the building and that he'd turn it back on, but it went off again overnight. The shower was barely warm and had very little pressure. We decided against the evening meal because of the poor experience so far, and went into Haworth to warm up and eat. When we got back around 8 pm, the place was dead and had no atmosphere. On a cold October night, it would have been nice to sit by the warm fire shown in the website photo, but there wasn't one. Perhaps the owner is missing a trick. I could go on, but that's enough.
