The manager was friendly and informative, and got us checked in quickly, even before the usual time. The room had a pleasantly nostalgic look, with friendly, homely decor. It seemed clean, and the ensuite was well kept, though small. We had a pleasant one-night stay and would come back.

My sister and I stayed here about a month ago and had a lovely time. It's wonderfully close to Brighton's seafront, and we couldn't have asked for more. Thanks, and sorry this review is late!

Sandra was incredibly kind and helpful, which made my four-night stay even nicer. The room at the Hudson Hotel was spacious and had what I needed, including an en suite bathroom, hairdryer and TV. I also appreciated the water bottles refreshed daily and plenty of tea and coffee. I highly recommend staying here.

I booked the Hudson's hotel with my partner because we wanted somewhere cheap, so we weren't expecting five-star luxury. The central location is convenient and the beach is a short walk away. Four nights and five days cost £190, and the front desk staff member offered to carry my bags upstairs. That's where the positives end. The room was smaller than I expected, even though I had allowed for that, and the pictures online give a misleading impression. The decor is very old, depressing and a bit creepy. The bathroom door had no handles or locks, the wardrobe was missing a handle, and both drawers were damaged. The curtains were very creased, something I noticed others mentioning in reviews too. The room also felt generally dirty. The bottom drawer of the wardrobe was caked in what I think was mould. The hangers were sticky, so I had to clean them before putting my shirts on. When I used the kettle, I thought I saw more mould, but my partner said it was very thick limescale. Hudson's hotel is cheap for a reason. If you're trying to save a little, I'd look elsewhere; paying another hundred or two hundred would be worth avoiding this place.

The rooms were tiny, dusty and covered in debris, with rubbish left by previous guests. Only the bed linen looked freshly changed. The bathroom doors wouldn't shut, and the shower was rusty, dirty and covered in black mould. The windows were bolted in place but left open, with no way to open or close them by hand. When we raised this with the woman at reception, she said these issues had never been brought up in her 7-8 years working there, then talked about how much had been spent refurbishing the place. She confirmed the Booking.com photos were several years old and said they had no intention of updating them. We also heard her take a loud phone call at reception about our complaint, saying she priced rooms low so “guests don't have high expectations.” This was the dirtiest and noisiest place I've stayed. We're never coming back to this attempt at a guesthouse, and I'd strongly recommend others stay away too.
