The scenery around here is gorgeous, with snow on distant peaks and lush green below, and the nearby walks aren’t too strenuous. We spent three nights at Hare and Hounds while visiting friends and loved it. The rooms were clean and cosy, with brownies instead of biscuits and real milk in the fridge. Everyone was friendly, cheerful and helpful. We ate dinner there twice, enjoying the varied menu and generous portions. Breakfast was excellent too: big, delicious piles of scrambled eggs, GF granola without needing to ask, and genuinely fresh fruit salad with dollops of creamy yogurt. It seems popular with locals as well as visitors. They also have a small but carefully chosen range of single malts and their own brand of champagne. Loved it.

We only had one night here in October, and I’m glad we went. The Barn conversion was the only room available and was very nice. I wish we’d stayed longer. Lunch and breakfast were wonderful, and the landlord, staff and other guests were so friendly. Thanks for a great day and evening.

We’d booked at the wheatsheaf at Brigsteer, only to find it closed when we arrived for our reservation. Hare Hounds was already really busy, but the team still managed to fit our group in. Everyone was friendly and the food was great. We’ve been before, and it was brilliant again. We can’t thank them enough, especially since we were celebrating my brother’s 30th birthday.

The country-style rooms were lovely, and the food was top class. We only managed one night, but the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Thanks to everyone who made the stay so enjoyable. We’ll definitely return and recommend this place to anyone.

Stayed Thursday and last night. The food was fabulous, breakfast superb, and the room lovely. Such a friendly family pub, it felt like staying with good friends and being at home. A definite must! 👍❤️
