There’s private parking, easy access from the road and a private bar area. The veranda has lovely views, and the rooms are gorgeous, each with its own style, from traditional and classy to gothic. Some have single showers, others double showers, and a few have a big bath. Everything was clean and the setting is beautiful. Phil, who looks after the building, is great to talk to and will do what he can to accommodate guests. Reasonably priced too.

We travelled for hours to the Lake District, only to arrive and be told the property was already fully booked. We had nowhere to stay. On New Year’s Eve, that was especially distressing, and it took until around 8pm to find somewhere else. It was far from our original booking and plans, so we couldn’t go out for New Year’s. Since it was last minute on one of the busiest nights of the year, we had to pay hundreds of pounds more than we’d originally booked. We also lost £90 on pre-booked Ubers, £45 each way, that we couldn’t use. I contacted the property more than 20 days ago and got no response. When I finally reached them by phone, they went silent and hung up, with no follow-up. The guy on the night said there was nothing he could do. He sounded like he was out on New Year’s and didn’t care at all. Being left without accommodation after a long journey caused a lot of stress and anxiety. We raised it immediately and were ignored for over 20 days. The owner has shown no accountability or urgency. This is a serious failure, not a small inconvenience. No, I would not recommend this place at all.

Phil made us feel right at home and was incredibly accommodating and friendly. We rented Lyth Valley Country House for a self-catered trip with 17 people, and it was perfect for our group. The rooms are finished to a high standard, with super-comfy beds and breathtaking views from every angle. It’s an ideal place for a private event or group getaway. I’ll definitely tell my friends.

Phil’s enthusiasm for life and eagerness to make us feel welcome really stood out. The two young women at breakfast were polite, courteous and helpful beyond their years. The breakfast chef, who we didn’t see, handled specific requests very well, and the woman who kept the lovely rooms in showroom condition was friendly and clearly happy in her job. My wife and I had a great two-night stay at Lyth Valley Hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious and airy, with fabulous views. Breakfast was just what we wanted, and we’ll definitely return, probably with relatives.

It’s a little out of the way, and there isn’t a pub particularly close by, though they sell drinks on site. There are plenty of walks nearby, and Pip recommended a great one. She was lovely, and made me a really good vegan breakfast on both mornings, just what I needed before hill walks. My partner enjoyed the regular full English. The room and bathroom were clean and very comfortable, and it’s dog friendly too. Hopefully we’ll be back soon.
