The owner was so helpful and made us a delicious, hot breakfast. Our room was spacious with an ensuite, though the bed felt a bit too soft for me. The house has a lovely garden with flowers, birds and wild rabbits, plus free parking. It’s peaceful, surrounded by nature, with walking trails right outside and Keswick about 8 minutes away by car. The whole traditional house was clean and charming, with all the comforts despite feeling like a step back in time.

Karen was lovely to talk to, and I really appreciated her hospitality. As a solo traveller, I found the double room roomy and comfortable, and slept well. The hot shower and filling breakfast were a great start to the day. It’s near Keswick, with a bus stop up the lane at Swan Hotel. A very welcoming stay in a well-kept period house dating to the 1570s.

The views were out of this world, and breakfast was outstanding, with quality meat from the local butcher and fresh eggs from the chickens. This is a charming, character-filled house and a much more personal experience than a chain hotel. The host was wonderful, and we had a lovely long chat after breakfast. Superb stay, thank you. I’ll come back, this time for a holiday.

Breakfast was delicious, and they had the fire lit for us when we arrived. The host was lovely and told us lots about the house’s Tudor-era history and original features. We had great views from the room, with walks around the lake and the Barf/Lords Seat hike close by. A quirky B&B that was fantastic for our recent stay. Just mind your head if you’re tall!

The gardens are beautiful and extensive, with a former tennis lawn, and you can see the surrounding hills from the house and garden. A footpath reaches Bassenthwaite Lake in about 10 minutes, and getting here from the main A66 was really easy. Karen couldn’t have been kinder or more welcoming. This Tudor-era house feels like a family home, with the fire lit and Karen feeding the chickens when I arrived. It’s a wonderfully maintained, rambling traditional B&B for anyone tired of corporate uniformity. Feeds the soul!
