The Borrowdale Hotel

We were so well looked after from start to finish, and the staff were amazing throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. The room, food, and service were all excellent. A perfect five-star experience. Thank you.

We’ve stayed at this hotel and others in the same group before, with very good experiences. This time, over three nights in early February, the room was comfortable, the staff welcoming and efficient, and the food generally very good. But the disruptive renovation work made the stay really difficult, and we had no warning beforehand. If we’d known, we would have chosen different dates. There was an apology notice at reception, but it made the disruption sound much less serious than it was. From 8:30 each morning, there was banging and clattering, power tools, and workmen’s music from a ghettoblaster a couple of doors down. Men were sawing wood right outside our door, making plenty of noise and dust. We’d planned to read in our room when we weren’t out walking, but that was completely thwarted.

After a lovely walk along the lake, the Sunday roast was such a treat. There was an amazing selection, the service was attentive, and we could have our coffee in the lounge. Highly recommend.

The room was far too hot, and I could only open the window a few inches, so I’ve taken a star off the room rating. Everything else was perfect. It’s a beautiful hotel in a great location, with such friendly, accommodating staff. First class, and I’d highly recommend it.
