We had breakfast in the morning, and it was lovely and reasonably priced. The pub accommodation room was really nice and very warm, with complimentary bottles of water, tea and coffee. Just note that the private external bathroom is along the corridor, so you have to leave your room to use the toilet. It wasn’t a major issue for me, but if you don’t want to do that during the night, book an en-suite.

We’ve been a couple of times lately. One Saturday evening there was a band and football, and it was a good night out with pleasant people. We also had a family meal on Boxing Day in one of the private glass huts in the garden. It had heating, a speaker and a waiter service call button, and we really enjoyed it. Great for a private birthday, I’d recommend it.

The food was nice, but the pub was unbearably cold. If you’re spending £50-plus for an occasion, you’d expect a warm place to sit. I was so cold I skipped dessert. To the owner: turn the heating on in February and customers might stay longer without their jackets on.

Dinner was a real letdown. There were four of us and every meal had something wrong. Mine was inedible and arrived without the chicken I’d ordered. The chef should learn what Thai green curry is meant to taste like. My wife’s blade of beef was delicious, but the carrots were so raw she couldn’t cut them. My sister and her husband had pork belly, one portion was very overcooked, and the broccoli was raw like the carrots. Breakfast the next morning was very nice and made up for the evening. We stayed in room 10 on 23rd January. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable, but for the price it was missing basics, especially a bathroom mirror and a plug for the basin. Having a wet shave was difficult, and keeping the hot tap running wasted water. All the staff were very friendly and did a fantastic job.
