Travel Plaza Hotel

Fine for a night and good value. The rooms are a little tired, especially the bathroom, but clean and tidy enough. These photos are from when we were leaving, not arriving. Just bear in mind this isn’t a spa.

I stayed for a few days while work was being done at home, and it was a lovely stay. My room was spacious, clean and tidy, with everything I needed: a mini fridge, hairdryer, TV, tea and coffee, and complimentary shower gel and shampoo. Staff were friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. They lent me a dish and spoon, and an iron with a tabletop board was available free on request. There’s no breakfast, but Sainsbury’s is less than five minutes down the road, so picking up cereal and milk was easy. Scaffolding was up during my visit because solar panels were being fitted, and I noticed an electric charging point going in at the car park too. I’d definitely recommend this hotel.

The bed was the one big problem. It rocked, creaked and sloped so badly that we first moved our pillows to the other end to stop the blood rushing to our heads, then rolled into the dip in the middle. The room was clean and had a hairdryer, fridge, toiletries, TV, fan, heater and somewhere to sit. The bathroom was clean but a little dated. Reception was helpful, and the hotel has lovely grounds and a little shop with drinks and snacks. It looks very inviting, but whatever the price, you’re paying for somewhere to sleep. Please replace the bed in room 221.

The room was simple but had what we needed for the price, with a comfortable bed and good curtains. The location is lovely, with nearby towns easily reached and a nice restaurant attached to the hotel. The day staff were quite rude to my group. They told us off for opening doors, then complained that there were three adults in a family room, even though our booking was for three adults.
