The cabin was a great find for the price, and Fern Cottage was much bigger than we expected in a lovely location. We’d come back, though there were some issues worth mentioning. The hot tub was a treat, but the decking was dangerously slippery with no warning signs. Coming inside with wet feet was tricky too, since the floor was so slick and got covered in water. The bathroom had a lot of mould, and the decor needs attention despite looking good at first. The kitchen was surprisingly sparse. When we arrived, the cabin was very cold because the underfloor heating hadn’t been switched on ahead of time. Someone from the hotel said it would take a while to warm up because it was eco friendly, but didn’t answer why it hadn’t been started earlier. They did bring an extra portable heater, which got the cabin to a comfortable temperature.

The village nearby has a gorgeous waterfall, and the area around the cottages is super quiet and peaceful. We spent a long weekend in Fern Cottage, which was lovely, warm and cosy, and much bigger in person than it looked. We loved the hot tub and would definitely book again. Thanks, Jade.

Our Christmas stay was very disappointing, and the accommodation and service didn’t match the description. We were at Ardeonaig Hotel & Restaurant from 24-26 December 2025, and on Christmas Eve discovered our lodge had been double booked. Another couple was already inside, which caused a lot of stress and disrupted our Christmas plans. The bathroom door handle was broken, so it couldn’t be closed safely. There was mould on the walls and ceiling, and the lodge was unclean, with long black hairs in the bed and bathroom. There was no Wi-Fi either. Even after we raised these problems, nobody offered to move us to another lodge. The booking was non-refundable even if cancelled two weeks ahead, but we were offered a £50 discount on a future stay. Given what had happened, that felt inappropriate.

Room 5 Valentine was lovely, and the TV could connect to Wi-Fi so we could cast from a phone. The only small issue was that the toilet didn’t flush properly. The evening meal was wonderful and good value, and breakfast was cooked to order. The staff couldn’t have done more for us. The hotel is secluded, with wonderful views, and sits along the national cycle route, though it’s still pretty easy to reach by car.

A real hidden gem. We had drinks by the coal fire in the lounge, then a fantastic dinner made with locally sourced ingredients. Lovely atmosphere, room and amenities.
