Loch Tay Highland Lodges

The kitchen wasn’t great, and the food we cooked there wasn’t that good, though it was edible. It was still better than the boathouse next to our cottage, which is sometimes full of wasps. My photos show the other rooms. We stayed for a week in early to mid August 2025 in the three bed, two bedroom lodge ‘Ben Lawers’. The views of the loch were excellent and the location was amazing, basically in the middle of the Highlands. Fort William was an hour and a half away, Aviemore two hours, Edinburgh and Glasgow were easy to reach, and the loch next door had lots of activities. The only bad thing was a metal thing under the sofa next to the TV. On our fifth night I cut my foot on it. No idea why it’s there, but moving the sofa a little could cover it, and I’m sure it’s a problem in other cabins at the resort. It’s amazing value at around £1000 for seven days, which I think is great, especially compared with Cornwall, where five days could cost a lot more. It’s amazing.

I’m so grateful to the ladies at reception and the onsite groundsman. The ladies found my husband and me a more suitable lodge, and the groundsman escorted us to it and helped us collect the keys. It was beautiful, warm and clean, with all facilities, a fitted kitchen, lounge with fire, dining table, newly fitted bathroom with bath and overhead shower, and two double bedrooms. The views of Loch Tay from the windows and outside decking were beautiful. We had to pay extra to upgrade on top of what my son had paid, but it was well worth it. The stay would have been very different without their help, and I’m grateful other accommodation was available. Our original accommodation, booked through Booking.com, was one of the small camping pods with shared facilities, which in my opinion wasn’t fit for purpose. It had boards with plastic mattresses on top, was dark and cold, and the lighting was very dim. One light wasn’t working, the beds weren’t made, and there were no instructions for converting it to a double bed, if you could call it that. Spiders were waiting in the corners for company. It wasn’t for me. I’ve stayed in the pods before and they were lovely, with all facilities and proper double beds, but shared camping pods aren’t for me. The description was rather misleading, so perhaps Booking.com could be clearer about what to expect. I’ll check any future bookings my son makes for us. Despite the rocky start, we ended up in a lovely lodge and really enjoyed our stay.

The campsite was very dog friendly, and the shared kitchen had two cookers, cooking gear, and a place to sit. The toilets were clean and the showers stayed hot. We got a good deal on Booking.com in early October. There’s a Co-op in Killin and an Aldi farther away in Aberfeldy. We drove around Loch Tay and walked up the hill to see the falls at Archan, about a two-mile round trip. Well worth it.

The lodge by the lake was warm, roomy, private and really comfortable. It had electric heating and a shower, plus a fridge, freezer and washing machine. Even the dogs had a treat waiting for them. There’s no dryer in the lodge, and you’ll want to bring a hair dryer if you need one. You can wash and dry clothes in the campers’ area too, for £4 a wash and £1 per 20 minutes in the dryer, using coins. Reception sells wood for £10 a bag, and the women there were lovely to chat with. I was travelling alone and felt safe and respected on site. The maintenance person was kind too and suggested a few walks. It’s very dog friendly. I’d originally booked a small cabin for March. It was a decent size, with a log burner and some wood provided, and a little kitchen stocked with pots and pans. The shower was small but worked fine. There was no hair dryer, and the TV wasn’t smart. I couldn’t get Wi-Fi or phone signal inside. The cabin had a few small faults and could use a refurbishment. I mentioned them to reception, and they unexpectedly upgraded me to the lakeside lodge. That was a very kind gesture. They clearly want guests to have a good stay.
