The cottage was so dirty and musty that we left within half an hour of arriving after a six-hour drive. Even the bedding smelled, and I sprayed perfume just to try to make the place bearable. Outside, there were loose nails near the hot tub and its wiring was held together with duct tape. The hut was selling Lucozade cans that had expired in August 2023. We'd booked months earlier, and since our stay the listing photos have been updated to show mostly the animals. We were told the key would be left somewhere safe so we wouldn't have to deal with the owners, but after calling Booking.com we found out the owners had it. That made us feel less safe, not more. When we raised what we'd found and showed photos, the owners were defensive and aggressive, with no compassion. They disputed everything and claimed the smell after we'd left was their cleaning products, not my perfume. We wanted a family getaway with a bit of farm life, not five-star treatment. Instead, the state of the cottage and feeling unsafe ruined our holiday. We had to find somewhere else at short notice, which cost me a fortune.

We only lasted about two hours before deciding to go home. The room had lovely furniture, but the building itself was in quite a state, and the owners didn't seem to care when we spoke to them. At nearly £200 a night, it really wasn't worth it. Finding the place was difficult because no directions had been sent, and we had to ask a neighbour. There was no lighting by the parking area, along the path, or outside the lodge to help us see where we were going. We weren't told to bring towels, and none were provided. The wood-fired hot tub had no wood on site, even though we'd messaged the day before to say we planned to use it. The nearest place to get wood was four miles away. Its jets didn't work either, so it was basically just a bath outside. The gas fire made both my husband and me feel extremely dizzy, and it was useless for warming the room. It's such a shame, because in the right hands this place could be incredible, but I wouldn't recommend it as things stand.

Animal lovers will feel right at home here. It's a beautiful place with a wonderfully warm, welcoming feel.

Completely misrepresented in the advertisement. The place was disgusting and felt unsafe.
