We found Avondale House convenient for our drive from the north of Scotland to the south. Since we were arriving late and leaving very early, it meant a lot that the owners were waiting outside on the drive to welcome us in the dark. There was ample, convenient parking, and the clean room and en-suite suited our short stay perfectly. It’s a simple, friendly B&B and excellent value compared with other local options. I’d recommend it as a stop between Scotland’s far north and the central belt.

We stayed in the Triple Room at Avondale House for three nights, my wife, our five-year-old son and me. The location in central Kingussie worked brilliantly: there’s a restaurant and play-park across the road, shops including the Co-Op two minutes away on foot, and easy drives to The Highland Wildlife Park, Landmark Adventure Park, Aviemore and other attractions. The roads are great to drive on. Our room was comfortable, with opening windows, TV, tea and coffee supplies and water, all topped up during the stay. We also had free on-site parking. Steve & Sue were warm and friendly, happy to chat or offer advice, while leaving us to ourselves when we didn’t need anything. We’d highly recommend Avondale House and will make it our first stop next time we’re back in this part of the country. Five stars.

We couldn’t figure out the shower, even after trying for 20 minutes. It swung between scalding hot and freezing cold, and there was no explanation for how to use it. Also, if you don’t order breakfast, you can’t buy coffee separately. The lady was quite firm that we should drink the coffee in the room, but Nescafe isn’t proper coffee, and it tasted awful.

The full Scottish breakfast was very tasty, and Zeus the rottweiler was absolutely adorable. Our room had a lovely Edwardian-style bath, a separate toilet just for us, and a really comfortable four-poster bed. Fantastic room.

We spent NYE here and had a great time. Sue was super friendly, and our room was cozy and pretty. I’d happily come back and recommend it.
