The Dundas Arms

The setting is hard to beat, with the Dundas Arms right by the canal, little streams nearby, and walks and fishing on the doorstep. It’s easy to find, and the staff greeted us with big smiles and were happy to help. We stayed in a pretty riverside room, though its bathroom felt a little tired. I understand the rooms are due for a facelift later this year, so hopefully that’s included. The pub and restaurant are closing on 1st June for refurbishment of the bar and restaurant, which I’m sure will make the place sing. During our stay, dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the wine list had something for everyone. I’m looking forward to visiting again once the work is done and the place has had a little Butcombe magic.

We took my parents to The Dundas Arms for lunch and had a lovely time. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Everyone we dealt with was polite, friendly and helpful. We changed our minds a bit about where to sit, and they moved us without hesitation. They even stepped around our dog, who was lying in the way, and offered him a water bowl. We’ve been before and will be back.

A waitress even went out of her way to make an iced coffee, and suggested a lovely route along the canal and through the village, which we did. I met a friend halfway for brunch after spotting the Dundas Arms on Google Maps. It was a real treat, with excellent food, and I’m thinking about coming back for a Sunday roast.

We had dinner there, and the food was divine. The service was top-notch, and you can tell a lot of care and pride has gone into the place. The spacious room felt earthy and luxurious, and the hotel is easy to find in a lovely, quiet village beside a beautiful river. It’s only an hour from the airport, great value for money, and I’d definitely stay again. Highly recommend.
