Mandela House Apartments

Everything was neat and clean, and the hosts had provided almost all the amenities we needed. The bus and train stations are very close, as is the beach, with other amenities nearby too. We had a great stay and would definitely come back.

Kirkcaldy is a lovely place with lots of beach. We visited in October, so it was chilly, but I'm sure summer would be much nicer, which was when we had originally planned to come. The rooms and service were great, and staff were always available online to answer questions. Access to the building was straightforward. They also let us move our travel dates when I came down with chickenpox, even though we had to change the booking just three days beforehand. I'd give the location four stars because getting to other places takes at least an hour by train or coach. Edinburgh is about an hour from Kirkcaldy, and Glasgow about two.

There were bed bugs and spiders in the apartment, and it felt unsafe for children. The sofa bed sheets hadn't been changed after the previous guests. There was hair and debris in the linen. We reported it, but nobody cleaned the room or gave us fresh sheets. Our family of four, including two children, had to squeeze into one double bed. It's a nasty place. I'd give it zero stars if I could, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Avoid if you can.

A good base for visiting the Fife area.
