Merchant House

The owner is really nice. We've stayed here a couple of times and found it a very nice place.

The house was cozy, with a lovely garden, and the sea and a huge park are close by. The landlady was always kind and helpful. She even offered me vegetables from her own garden and made some amazing dumplings. Thanks so much, S! I had a great time and will come back as soon as I can.

They took us in at 3am, which was lovely. The beds were firm but comfortable, and I say that as a disabled traveller. There are stairs, so this B&B won't suit someone with complete immobility. If you can manage the stairs, you'll be fine. The price includes a very substantial full Scottish breakfast, with egg, potato scones, beans, toast, butter and jam, among other things. There's also a little garden out back where you can sit.

Our room was on the top floor. It was clean and tidy, though the decor looked a little tired. As far as we know, ours was the only room with its own private bathroom. There are large shared bathrooms on both floors, and a small dining room on the top floor. The hosts are Chinese and speak enough English to get by. There are house rules: an evening curfew, no alcohol in the house, and no eating in the rooms. You can still bring food in and cook or eat it in the dining room. This B&B is in Dysart, just outside Kirkcaldy. There are only a couple of parking spaces right out front. Otherwise, you can park on the street if you find a spot.
