We stayed a night last month to celebrate an anniversary, and the hotel did a great job with food and drink. Prices were cheap, a welcome change these days. Lunch was excellent, well presented, nicely cooked and plentiful, and cost noticeably less than many places. Breakfast was a full Scottish, another excellent plateful. It seems popular too. At lunchtime the car park, which holds about 50 cars, was full.

The staff were lovely and took us half an hour before our booked time, but I'm not sure I'd go back. My family had spoken so highly of it, and my high tea was a let-down. When I asked to book for 3pm, I was told they couldn't do that, yet when we arrived only three restaurant tables were occupied. The fish pie was described as deconstructed. It was okay, but more like a bowl of fish soup with a tiny bit of puff pastry on top and mash and vegetables on the side. The white wine and dill cream sauce was very thin, and I couldn't taste either flavour. The cakes were even more disappointing. My friend and I got a flat plate with two scones and two cakes, both cream-filled fudge treats, a doughnut and a yum yum. At other high teas I've had a selection, usually at least two cakes each, like a tart, brownie or fruit slice. My friend doesn't like cream-filled cakes, so she had none. The tea bags weren't great either. After ten minutes in the pot, the tea was still weak. The hotel looks nice, and the staff were good, but the food was just okay and the high tea didn't match my family's experience.

Our Zumba crew had a fantastic Christmas party at the Strathearn Hotel. The atmosphere was warm and festive, and there was plenty of room to dance. The meal was lovely, tasty and nicely presented, just what we needed before a great night. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and kept everything running smoothly. We had a brilliant evening full of food, fun and laughter. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend it for Christmas parties or group celebrations.

We arrived without a booking, and a young woman from the dining room immediately checked for a room and got one sorted for us. She also arranged a last-minute High Tea table when we asked about dinner. The menu had lots of choice, including good gluten-free options for my wife. The meal was outstanding, and the desserts were exceptional. Our second-floor room was quiet and comfortable, unlike some other hotels we'd stayed in on the trip. Breakfast was excellent, with the same high service we'd had throughout. At the bar, the bartender suggested some great drinks and even found American football on TV, though it was Sunday. Friendly locals made the lively bar feel welcoming. One manager showed us old photos and maps and told us about the property's history. Every member of staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. The Strathearn Hotel has charm and character, and gave us a memorable stay. We'd recommend it for comfort, history and Scottish hospitality.

Abby, Evan and Melissa, the waitresses who looked after us, made us feel welcome and special. Gary, I think, the gentleman behind the bar, did too, though my eyesight isn't great for reading his badge from a distance. The staff were efficient, attentive and cheerful. A friend recommended the restaurant, and our first visit was a good one. The atmosphere was very good, the menu had lots of options and the food was excellent. We'll be back.
