The rooms have a quirky feel, and the shepherds pie is especially worth trying among the excellent meals. Staff are friendly and put in extraordinary effort to make up for the place being a little understaffed.

We just made it in time for an amazing roast at the jockey. There was plenty of tender, slightly pink beef, extra gravy and delicious cauliflower cheese. Everything came out piping hot and tasted fresh. Getting an extra Yorkshire for 50p was a nice touch. So tasty!

We were here for motorcycling and trail riding, and it was an excellent place to stay. The breakfast and evening menu were both excellent, with delicious food. Leanne deserves a special mention for helping pass on a key when my vehicle broke down. That’s real service and hospitality. Recommended.

The fish and chips and cheeseburger were both fresh and homemade. The fish had crisp batter and tender, flaky fish inside, and the thick burger was made with decent mince. Homemade chips were delicious too. We came for Saturday lunch and loved the pub’s character, including sitting in the old fireplace. It was spotless, the power ballads were a fun touch, and the server was very friendly. There’s a varied menu, so I’ll be back to try the enchiladas. Thanks for a great lunch!

Our room was comfortable, full of old character, and the pub itself has loads of charm. The food was good and served with friendly warmth. We were told a ghost lived in the room, though sadly we didn’t see it.
