The room was roomy, comfortable and clean, and breakfast was freshly cooked, tasty and generous. We only spent one night here, but Colin and Wendy made us feel very welcome and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay. The place sits on the edge of a small village, with lovely peaceful surroundings. Just right.

The breakfasts were excellent each morning, and the friendly hosts made sure I was happy. Colin and Wendy are warm, thoughtful people, and over my four-night stay I noticed lots of little touches that showed how much they cared about their guests having a good time. The Old Forge feels like a proper traditional British B&B.

The Barn was a lovely cottage conversion, well fitted out and furnished, with a sunny terrace at the back. The double and twin rooms both had en-suite bathrooms, and it suited us well. Knockin has a cricket club, where we had a very pleasant evening, as well as its own radio telescope. It's also handy for getting to Oswestry, Church Stretton, the Berwyn Hills and Pistyll Rhaeadr. The one issue was the B road through Knockin. Lorries seemed to start passing quite early, so it wasn't as quiet as we'd expected, though it didn't bother us most of the time.

The hosts were friendly, and breakfast was great, which helped make up for a couple of odd things. The rooms get almost unbearably hot, and some bathrooms have only hot taps, with no cold water.
