Longview Hotel

They still took £200 after we’d called well ahead to cancel. When I rang to explain, the hotel showed no interest at all in sorting it out. It may have been a genuine mix-up somewhere, but they completely disregarded what I was telling them. Disgusting. I’ve seen other reviews mention poor customer service and now I understand why. I’ll be taking this further. There are plenty of excellent hotels in Knutsford, so don’t book here.

The room was much warmer than comfortable, even with the window wide open all night. Apart from that, this is a lovely little hotel, with large, clean rooms that feel much nicer than a generic Premier Inn or similar. Breakfast took a while because it was cooked to order rather than laid out as a buffet, but the sausages were excellent.

The staff were professional and flexible, and helped us with train times and information about Tatton Park. They also accommodated our check-in, which was appreciated. The rooms were clean and well appointed, and the hotel has real character and an interesting history. It stands out as one of my favourite places in England. I used to live near Knutsford when we lived in England, and if you’re tired of chain hotels with no atmosphere, I recommend the Longview.

The walls were so thin that we were kept awake all night and into the morning by other guests having sex. Another guest apparently left during the night because they thought they’d found bed bugs in their room. Staff then loudly discussed in the corridor whether the hotel had bed bugs or not. That uncertainty, broadcast for everyone to hear, made guests think there definitely were bed bugs. The staff were unhelpful and showed little understanding toward guests who didn’t know the area. We’d booked two nights for a wedding but left early because the stay was so unsatisfactory. Our room was atrocious and vastly overpriced: hair all over the bed and floor, a dirty bathroom, fittings and furnishings in bad shape, a broken blind and broken coat hooks. The whole look felt about 20 years out of date. Possibly the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I’d strongly advise people to avoid it.
