The food was decent, though not fantastic. We all had roasts: the vegetables were good, but one small jug of gravy for three people felt stingy. The pork tasted good, but the fat was soggy instead of crisp, even though I like belly pork. The pub itself is in a smart Warwickshire village, with a modern-classic look that seems popular at the moment. There’s an airy bar and plenty of places to sit for a drink, and we’d been told to expect good food and service for our Sunday lunch with friends. Service was the real letdown. There were lots of young staff clearing tables and carrying meals, but nobody seemed to be looking after us. We had no personal interaction or smiles, and our finished plates sat there for 15 minutes. It took ages to get someone to take a dessert order, and when the coffee finally came, it had spilled into the saucers. It seemed as if each person was expected to look after a whole table, which may be part of the problem. The staff were fetching and carrying, but that’s a long way from good service. They were busy, so I doubt they’ll take this feedback on board and may assume everything’s going well.

It’s a little out of the way, so visitors who aren’t local and plan to have a few drinks might want to get a taxi. Still, I’ve found the atmosphere just right on every visit, with enough buzz without getting too loud or too quiet. The beer is high quality, both the taste and the range, and the food is very good. They also put out generous portions of nuts at the bar. I’ve been here lots of times and have spotted celebrities, mostly professional football players. A great pub.

The only good part was the table near the window that Leanne kindly arranged after I explained this was an important evening. Our friends had come over from Italy, and we wanted to impress them. The reservation was under Lisa M for 6 at 7.30 pm, but our food didn’t turn up for 90 minutes, despite us asking repeatedly. We were told there was “trouble in the kitchen.” Everyone was starving, so I asked for bread and they brought some. I reassured my guests the meal would be worth the wait, but after my husband spoke to the manager, the fish and chips finally arrived. The chips were hard and cold, and the fish was average. I’ve never felt so humiliated at a restaurant, especially with friends who’d treated us to wonderful Italian cuisine when we visited them. They took our drinks off the bill, but honestly, I would have wanted the whole bill refunded. It was a disaster from start to finish, and I’ll never go back. I’d be very careful about bringing visitors here.

We had such a good afternoon at our Harding shindig in the event space. Liane and the team at the punchbowl looked after us from beginning to end, and couldn’t have done more. The food kept coming, the bar was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. We’re all still celebrating and talking about how good the venue and team were. Sorry if we got a bit loud near the end! Thanks so much. We’re already looking forward to the next one in 2026 xxxx Lisa

The roast rump beef was lovely, and the staff were attentive throughout. The general manager was friendly and helpful too. I took my mother out for Mother’s Day and we had a lovely meal, so we’ll be coming back often. Thanks to the whole team for making our day special.
