I visited the castle grounds with my little Westie on Wednesday 30 July at about 1 p.m. Since dogs can't go inside the house, I skipped a tour of the castle interior and explored outside instead. It was wonderfully peaceful, and we seemed to have the grounds to ourselves. Apart from eight people gathering for a guided tour, there was hardly anyone around. My dog had a great time running and exploring, and we were left alone to enjoy the amazing building. There are different walking trails where I could have gone for miles, but I stayed nearer the house. With most castles, I think the best photos are of the outside anyway.

A nice half day out, and I'd recommend it. The castle tour was a refreshing change because the rooms weren't roped off as you went around. The guides were informative, and tea at the end was included in the price. The grounds are nice, though there isn't much to explore.

The upper floor has stunning ceilings, and the guide Hazell, along with Morag, made the visit fascinating. They explained each room with care and had plenty of historical knowledge and a real passion for the house. There was lots of opportunity to ask questions during the tour.

I went to a classic car event on the castle grounds. It was a brilliant day, with lots to see and do, and the castle is very majestic. I had two dogs with me, unfortunately, so couldn't go inside.

What a lovely place to visit. The staff were extra helpful and very friendly, and the accommodation, the Maitland suite, was extremely clean and tidy. I'll definitely book again.
