There are quite a few lovely food and craft stalls, and lots of them offer samples to try. Definitely worth a visit.

Lots of great vendors. I recommend trying the Spanish street food paella and the French pastries.
The farmers market runs every Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. I went mainly for the food, but there weren’t many choices, and it’s smaller than the markets in London. There are plenty of gluten-free options, though the food wasn’t especially tasty. I tried the paella 🥘 after waiting in a long queue, and the flavour let me down. It’s overrated. The gluten-free churros were okay, but the chocolate served with them wasn’t very good.
Stockbridge Farmers Market had a lively, welcoming feel, with a nice variety of local stalls and friendly vendors. I tried the venison, which was cooked just right and full of flavour, plus a delicious burnt cheesecake and some hearty pies. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. It’s a lovely, relaxed Sunday outing if you want to explore local food in Edinburgh. Definitely recommend!
The market is on Sundays only and has lots of local vendors. It doesn’t get too crowded unless you’re heading for the paella stall, which is really popular. The chicken paella is delicious. They sometimes run out, but cook more while you wait.
