We were hungry and caught in the rain, so despite the low rating we decided to give the place a chance. The food turned out to be awesome. I had the halloumi burger and fries, which were amazing, and my wife had a huge ham and cheese jacket potato. Her wine and my Coke brought the bill to £30.70, which seemed fair for a local Spoons. I was looking for a Wetherspoons because I usually only have halloumi burgers when eating out, apart from the loaded fries I get at Nando’s. The decor is interesting, but the gents’ toilets are the real attraction. The tiles look like they were put up by someone who was very longsighted, and the hand dryer is stuck to the wall with silicone. It wobbles back and forth when switched on as the silicone tries to hold onto those badly placed tiles. Come for the decor, stay for the food.

We had a table in the restaurant for supper at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14th, a family group of eight. The bar was busy, and the lively conversation made for a nice atmosphere. Our server looked after us well, and when the manager (or owner?) heard we were welcoming family from Australia, they came over to greet us. That was a lovely touch. We all enjoyed the varied, nicely presented food. We were still having dessert around closing time, but nobody hurried us. Two of us also eat here regularly with the Rotary Club, and the standard has been just as good on those visits. Launceston is lucky to have this place, and we’ll be back.

We walked in without a booking on Valentine’s Day at night, hoping we might find a drink, a snack, or even a meal. Everywhere seemed booked up or closing early, so we were really glad the White Heart Hotel was still serving food. We felt comfortable within minutes of arriving, and it’s a good place to have a drink too. Highly recommend.

Breakfast was really good quality, with a reasonable portion, a good menu selection, and very fair prices. There was a bit of a wait after ordering, though. We were warmly welcomed and sat at the front, with a window view of the square. The interior felt fresh and very clean. Coffee was available, and the breakfast tea came in a bone china cup, a lovely touch. I’d definitely recommend it for breakfast in town. Best of luck to the new owners, and I hope their effort at the White Hart is met with continued service and hospitality.

The menu had plenty of good options at good value, and the friendly, attentive service added to the relaxed feel. We heard cheerful music and other customers laughing, which made it feel happy and easygoing. It’s not a posh place, and that’s part of the appeal. It’s down to earth and makes people feel at home. We were greeted as soon as we came in, and both my dog and grandson were made welcome, which I really appreciated. We’ll definitely come back.
