2 Loxter Villas

I wanted to give this place a glowing review, because the first half of our stay was lovely. The cottage is charming, the welcome basket was a nice touch, and the owners seemed responsive and helpful. We even left them a thank you gift. We extended our booking after those first few days, and regret that now. The extension was followed by noise issues that ruined half our stay. The cottage is next to a main water reservoir serving the local area, and in hot weather the water company may bring tankers in the early hours to refill it, without warning. We had booked for a restful break. There was also an old bed that broke. The owners came to fix it, openly said it needed replacing, apologized, and brought us a bottle of wine. They offered a partial refund for these problems, but after checkout they didn't honor it. Instead, they've tried to blame us for what seemed like ordinary wear and tear. It leaves a bitter taste, especially after they offered compensation and we gave them time to address it. The matter is now with Sykes Cottages to resolve. We booked through them, and had considered the issue settled until the owners went back on their offer after we left. Had they followed through, this review would have been very different.
