I stayed here twice for one night each while working in the area. Elizabeth was very welcoming and served tea, coffee and cake when I arrived. It was lambing season, so I enjoyed wandering around the farmyard. The room was clean and comfortable, and the old building is interesting, in a quiet rural setting. The downside is that the floors creak and some of the walls are thin, so I could hear people in other rooms, especially their loud TVs.

I’d be happy to stay again. The Cherry Blossom room was very good, with a view of the garden, and breakfast was excellent: fresh options and a tasty, well-cooked Full English. Elizabeth was a welcoming host. Getting to the room means taking stairs that curve, so the steps are angled. White House Farm, HR1 3RB is where the previous owner has moved. It’s a great old farmhouse with the features and quirks of Ocle Pychard’s oldest building. Many thanks, Elizabeth.

The house could use better sound insulation. Someone staying there was on the phone constantly, and his voice carried through the whole place, which was irritating when we’d come for a quiet weekend. Still, we really enjoyed our stay. It’s a beautiful spot with a lovely host, a great breakfast, and wonderful homemade Apple juice. Watching the lambs frolic was a treat too. I’d highly recommend it.

Elizabeth made us feel welcome straight away, with tea and a delicious fruit biscuit when we arrived. She was friendly, helpful and considerate. The bed was very comfortable, and breakfast tasted great. The peaceful setting and the building’s character and quirky charm made for a lovely stay, and we’d happily return. There are a couple of small things that come with an old building. Sound travels between rooms, so we could hear our neighbours snoring, though earplugs sorted that out. The shower pressure was weak, which meant taking longer to rinse shampoo from my hair, but it wasn’t a big deal when we weren’t in a hurry.

We spent one night here on an experience voucher and found the place freezing, with no heating on and no hot water. I had to boil the kettle to shave. Another couple told us the boiler had broken, but the owner hadn’t said anything to us. Breakfast wasn’t impressive, and then we were charged £14 each for it when we left. It was the most expensive breakfast ever. I felt we’d been had. I felt sorry for the elderly couple who still had two nights to spend in that freezer. Never again.
