The room was quite a walk from the desk, but once there I found it spacious and clean. The ensuite was clean as well, and the bed was comfortable. The woman at reception was friendly and helpful. It’s well located near the train station, and the price was great for what you get.

A good, low-cost base in the centre, only a few minutes from Leeds station. WiFi was okay, and having an ironing room was handy. The room itself wasn’t luxurious, but it worked fine for a night or two on a work trip. On Tuesday there was some music from a bar, though it stopped well before midnight. There’s an off licence opposite, Delhi Wala is a really good curry place nearby, and Tesco or Sainsbury local are just around the corner.

The location near the train station is ideal, and both the room and bathroom were large. The bed was comfortable, but the room was very cold. The central heating radiators weren’t working, especially in the bathroom. They provided two old electric radiators, and I had to use one, though its cord wouldn’t reach the bathroom. The shower tap, the part you lift to turn the shower on, was unscrewed and I couldn’t fix it, so I couldn’t shower. I’m not sure I’d have wanted to in that cold bathroom anyway. A strong draft blew cold air onto me in bed. It was enough to push the bedroom door open, so I wedged my suitcase against it. The carpet tiles on the stairs need replacing too.

Once inside, the sewer smell was overpowering. I assumed it was connected to the road works outside. Aside from that, the place has everything you’d want right in the heart of the city. It’s across the road from the train station and an easy few minutes’ walk to the bus station. My room was a little dated, but clean, tidy, well stocked and well appointed. It was also remarkably quiet on a busy night in town. The staff were prompt, courteous, efficient, helpful and pleasant, with a professional manner. The midweek price was reasonable for such a central spot, and I’ll stay here again when I pass through Leeds.

I stay in lots of hotels when I’m off watching bands and things, and this one always gives me a lovely, friendly welcome. Even if a year goes by between visits, Esther at reception remembers my name. There’s also a great real ale pub right next door, if that’s your thing.
