Holiday Inn Leeds Garforth by IHG

I can't fault the reception staff themselves. They're front of house and clearly limited in what they can do. The real problems were the hotel's condition, management and standards. I travel regularly for business and leisure, and have stayed in many 4 and 5-star hotels across the UK. This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. I'll be making further formal complaints. We'd come from Birmingham to Leeds for a family funeral early the next morning. It was already a difficult trip as we were grieving a close family member and travelling with my grandmother, who has poor health, and my grandfather, who has asthma. The stay added stress to an emotional situation. I'd booked through a third-party site, where the hotel looked perfectly acceptable. I travel often, and this was my first experience this bad. Only after arriving did I check Google reviews and see a very different picture of the hotel. The room had a strong, unpleasant smell as soon as we entered. It was freezing, and the temperature control/thermometer didn't work. The room phone was also out of order, so we couldn't contact reception that way. Everything felt run down, poorly maintained and unhygienic. Even the towels smelled unpleasant, and the beds were so uncomfortable that getting any rest was difficult. Given why we were there, our arrival time and our mental and physical state, we couldn't look for somewhere else to stay. In any other circumstances, we'd have left immediately. Breakfast at 7am the next morning was just as disappointing. There were no baked beans at all, the toast machine didn't work, and the buffet was disorganised, with food poorly laid out and little management. For £210, this was absolutely not worth it. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone or even consider bringing my dog here. Please don't waste your time or money.
