Croft Hotel

I stayed one night in 2023 and then had to deal with bed bugs at home for a week. I emailed the hotel at the time to let them know and got completely ignored. It came up in conversation today, which reminded me to leave the review they deserve. Look after yourselves and book somewhere else!

I booked because of the price, despite seeing mixed reviews. Two nights, Monday and Tuesday, cost £108 through hotels.com. The car park is small and uses ANPR, so you need to give reception your registration. They didn’t take a deposit for the keys, as stated, and asked for ID on arrival. My room, number 26, was up two flights of stairs, and the bathroom had been refurbished. The room was clean and the bed was made each day. The bed itself was cheap but comfortable. There was an old decor, hairdryer, heater and kettle, but no TV remote and no WiFi password was provided. For a limited budget, it’s OK. For the price, it was OK.

The staff were polite and efficient, but my room was in poor shape and the place was extremely dirty. There was a visible hole in the bathroom floor beneath the toilet and black mould on most of the walls. Many other guests seemed to be homeless or addicts, and there was shouting and disruption through the night. I wouldn’t recommend staying here over another place at a similar price. The location is decent, near the main road and an easy walk from the University of Leicester.

The beds were very comfortable, though having just one pillow each made them feel a bit low when settling in to sleep. Breakfast was hot, nice and quick, and it was included in the stay, which was a bonus. We only stayed one night, but both my friend and I found it a nice place. It’s well placed for the university district and the city centre. The building looks old outside, though it’s kept to a reasonably good standard. A few issues came up, but the hotel staff fixed them quickly. Hopefully we’ll come back.
