The Pug & Greyhound

For about two years, my boyfriend and I have been coming to The Italian Greyhound, and the service has been impeccable every time. We’re always greeted with a smile, and the food is incredible with a great range of drinks. Tonight, the staff were especially helpful and accommodating with the things I needed because of my disability. Thanks to all of them. I’d recommend this pub without hesitation. My personal picks are the diavola pizza and passionfruit martinis. It’s a lovely place for a drink in the beer garden or an authentic italian meal. We’ll be back soon!

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and there was plenty of good-quality food at the wake. The place itself felt shabby, though. It’s a jumble of buildings with uneven floors and lots of little corners, and the room we used was cramped and dingy, with odd murals and wall decorations. It looks like it’s barely hanging on. There was just one bottled non-alcoholic lager, and the self-serve hot drinks weren’t available for about half an hour because the hot-water boiler apparently hadn’t been switched on before we arrived. We’d come for a wake after a funeral at the nearby crematorium. I suspect the venue relies on funeral trade because it’s the closest place to the crematorium.

The food was delicious, full of flavour and clearly made with good ingredients. We also had a comfortable, clean room that was well looked after and easy to settle into. The team were warm, attentive and friendly without hovering, and made us feel valued from start to finish. A lovely place to eat, stay and unwind. We’ll be back, and would recommend it for the food, comfort and welcoming service.

We’d first planned to eat at the Cow and Plough on Gartree road, but they weren’t serving food that Friday afternoon, so we went to the greyhound instead. Glad we did. The Gamberoni Pizza was 10/10: delicious prawns, a great tomato sauce, and dough crunchy outside but soft in the middle. The fondant was good too, though a little overbaked inside. Very satisfied overall.
