The staff made our birthday evening feel special from the start. They let us in an hour early to decorate and cleared everything afterwards, and they were efficient, professional and genuinely lovely throughout. We had around 30 guests, with plenty of space to sit, stand and dance, plus direct access outside for anyone who wanted to smoke. Some relatives travelling from further away could stay overnight in the rooms too, which was really handy. The party package at the axe and compass covered the room hire, buffet and DJ. The homemade food was delicious, and they catered for our vegetarian and vegan guests. The DJ checked our music requests with us and got them spot on. Everyone danced and had such a good time. We couldn't be happier with how it went, and I can't thank the staff enough.

The people here were so nice, and we really enjoyed the food, especially the proper homemade pies. We only stayed one night; the room was average and the price was reasonable. I'd definitely eat here again.

The room was pretty, with a very comfortable bed, plenty of towels and a lovely shower. Dinner on Thursday was tasty too, and the cherry meringue pie with cream was delicious. The lady who served us couldn't have been nicer. I'd happily recommend staying here and will come again. I'd booked before reading the reviews, so I was very pleasantly surprised.
