Seaside Bungalow

The bar and clubhouse weren’t for me. I only went in to check in and out, and there was a stale sweat and urine smell as you walked in. The food was really basic, so you’re better off getting a takeaway. The shop is limited, though there’s a supermarket about 10 minutes away in Hayle. St Ives and Hayle are easy to reach by car, but parking in St Ives can be impossible even out of season. The bus would be better, but there’s never been a service running when I’ve visited. The grounds are nicely kept, with woodland around them and plenty of good walks nearby. The caravans and lodges fit the setting and aren’t crammed into rows of white boxes. Free WiFi across the site is handy because the phone signal is patchy. This was my third visit, always in a platinum lodge. They’ve been spotlessly clean and well appointed, but each time something’s been wrong. At 10pm this time, the heating stopped working. I was able to repressurise the system myself and it was fine for the rest of the week, but there’s no thermostat, so the lodge stayed too hot even with it 5 degrees outside. Other lodges had their windows open all the time, so they may have the same problem. The curtain poles weren’t attached properly and fell off whenever touched. I nearly smashed a window and the TV just opening the curtains. Half the hob burners wouldn’t stay lit unless you held the knob down. It’s okay, I’ve stayed three times, so it can’t be terrible. Just manage your expectations.

The bar staff and entertainment team were lovely and helpful, but we won’t be going back. We arrived with disabled friends and had booked two caravan lodges. One was ready at check-in, while staff had no idea when the other would be. My disabled friend politely asked if reception could drop off the key once it was ready, but they didn’t want to help. The key came more than an hour and a half later, which seemed normal for this place. Our lodge seemed okay at first, then we found it had a ladybug infestation. The entertainment area was cold, damp and unpleasant, though we carried on because we didn’t want to spoil the holiday. They were building a new pool, and the work was affecting the building so much that I’m not sure the park should have been open at all. They clearly weren’t ready for guests.

The site has a few outdated bits, but that’s part of its charm. We had a lovely family holiday and would definitely return. The caravan lodge was tidy and really clean when we arrived, with the beds already made, which was a nice touch. There was also a welcome pack with milk, tea, coffee and biscuits. The reception team were friendly and welcoming, and the entertainment staff were 10/10.

We were out most of the day, so in the evenings we mainly used the bar. The staff there were polite and friendly, and the entertainment team did a great job with the kids. The accommodation was compact but perfectly fine for two people. I’m not sure it would be big enough for four.
